For decades, the vehicle dismantling sector in the state of Rio de Janeiro had faced a reality marked by informality, a lack of traceability and a strong association with criminal practices, such as car theft and robbery. Both Detran RJ and the Public Security Department were looking for an effective way to monitor this sector and curb the illegal trade in parts. The lack of a suitable technological tool prevented effective control of the activities of the so-called "junkyards", which made inspection difficult and encouraged clandestinity.
