Weaker cloud results and the rise of Chinese artificial intelligence

The world's leading technology companies have published their results for the fourth quarter of 2024 (4Q24). And, almost unanimously, the cloud computing segment was the one that most disappointed investors.

Revenues generated by the segment were lower than expected by industry analysts, which could call into question the amount of resources spent on artificial intelligence (AI).

"Although timidly, the Chinese from Huawei, Tencent and Alibaba have been making inroads, despite the restrictions on access to more advanced hardware components," explains Antonio Censi, Montreal's Chief Technology Officer, in reference to the ban that has been in place since 2023 on the export of high-performance chips from the US to China.
